Some Good News

We got the results from Zoe's chest xray today and it shows no signs of pneumonia or TB so woohoo!! It looks like she has viral bronchiolitis which means we will need to keep up the breathing treatments for a few weeks-to which my husband responded "WEEKS?! are you KIDDING me?!"which I think is a quite appropriate response as we are both ready to smack that smile off that little penguin's cheeky face at this point-and wait for this virus to run its course. So, aside from doing the treatments on a decreasing (hopefully) basis for the next few weeks, we do not need to do any other significant medical intervention. Those breathing treatments though, well, they are like trying to put lipstick on a greased pig--that girl moves and wiggles and grabs the mask and tubing constantly and I am pretty sure we burn like 500 calories in 10 minutes. (Hence the aforementioned response from my hubby) The upside is she is getting a little smiley-er each day which I think is probably what happens when you are experiencing oxygen for the first time!! We are just so thankful God got her home with us in exactly His timing because she was really struggling and to think of what might have been if we had been a month or more later, well...we won't think of it. One other concern that has developed is her hearing-she seems to not respond to any sort of noise stimulation on her left side so we will be having her hearing evaluated in about 4 weeks. But enough of the concerning things--can I just share how in LOVE we are with her???? Her eyes just suck you in and then she sucker punches you with a sweet, slow, toothless smile. How did this little critter just jump right into our hearts and family so completely and perfectly in an instant? Only God-to Him be ALL the glory for this beautiful chapter of our lives.

I can relate to your nebulizer woes. My son had bronchitis bad this fall and required treatments every 4 hours around the clock for about a week. I feel your pain. I am thankful with you for getting your sweet one home in perfect time.

I am so sorry you need to do the breathing treatments but so happy that it's not something much more serious!!

Hey! You're not allowed to talk about how precious she is and that slow smile suckerpunch without a picture. Sheesh. Leave us all hanging like that...

Glad you have some good news!

I hear ya - it's so easy to focus on the stupid doctor's appts and forget to post about how much you are in love with your amazing little girl :)

And the penguin probably deserves a punch - he looks smug to me.

Glad to hear it's not too serious. Sorry about the penguin though! I love God's perfect timing in getting her home for treatment!

Praise the Lord it is nothing serious. Breathing treatments are not fun on a 4 year old, so I can't imagine a baby. I am so thankful she is home in your arms!!!

I can also relate to the nebulizer woes...we found that it was MUCH easier to do the treatments when she was sleeping or very sleepy...so we would get her up when she was really really tired and the room was still dark (around 6am) and do a treatment, then at night when she was falling asleep (around 8pm) we would lay down together and I would put it under her nose (never could we do the mask) while we both sang songs. I'm so glad that you guys have a diasnosis and are getting her such good treatment! The good news is that when a child cries when they are irritated with the treatment, that they are actually breathing in much more of the medication with such big gulps of air in between cries. But again, we never ever could do the mask. We just put the tube under her nose (close to her chin and pointed it towards her nose and mouth).

Glad to hear you're on the plan of complete healing ... we'll be praying for God's intervention to shorten the treatments...

Jody and Pat-
There has already been a fight in our house (tears and all) over Zoe! Apparently, Jody brought Zoe over to the school and Ethan was able to see her for the first time and went on and on about how adorable and cute she was to Sam! Sam was so disturbed at missing this opportunity and Ethan gushing on about how he saw her sweet face first that he started to get mad and weepy about the injustice of it all! I felt a little disappointed, too! So I had to tell Ethan to keep his adoration to himself until the whole family could gush on about her together!!
We have been keeping your whole family and especially little Zoe in our prayers while she battles this junk and you battle the penguin!
Love, the Huhges
